Purpose of the Job

The Staff Dentist position is responsible for providing professional work in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and deformities of the oral cavity and surrounding structures of the head and neck.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited dental school with a DDS or DMD degree.
• Current license to practice dentistry in any U.S. state or territory. Obtaining an Alaskan dental license within one year of employment is required.
• Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required.
• Current CPR (BLS) certification.
• Completion of an accredited general practice residency program is preferred but not mandatory.
• Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings and knowledge of the principles and practice of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan (e.g., pediatric, adult, geriatric) and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit's policies and procedures.
