JOB SUMMARY:

The Tribal Court Administrator provides administrative and managerial services for Upper Mattaponi Tribal Court system and ensures the timely flow of court generated documents, maintains written records for all court proceedings, and evaluates or interprets court policies and procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares, maintains, and documents all case activity and pertinent case information for case management purposes.
  • Assists with Court proceedings and performs all duties as required for Court recording.
  • Prepares all necessary documentation for Trial Court Judge, Attorney, and Law Enforcement Officials, regarding court policies/procedures, case status, jurisdiction, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring the physical security and confidentiality of Court records and Court facility through appropriate measures and actions.
  • Maintains office supplies and filing system for the Trial Court.
  • Documents communications with state, federal and tribal agencies.
  • Maintain a library of laws, regulations, orders, opinions, and any other resource that may be pertinent to the Tribal Court.
  • Maintain statistics for the court.
  • Create reports and submit to appropriate tribal authorities.
  • Ensure the court calendar and court docket are maintained.
  • Ensure the case files are processed, managed, handled in a timely manner and securely stored.
  • Ensure case files, pleadings and other case-related documents are kept confidential.
  • Perform a variety of preparation duties to prepare for court day.
  • Manage and collect court fines, fees and other monetary funds imposed by the court.
  • Perform other administrative and ministerial duties, assigned by the Chief Justice, Chief Judge, court development officials, or other court governing positions.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of the department and clientele.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in areas of criminal justice, social work, business administration, or similar field OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Proficiency in office and computer equipment and software is required.
  • Must have experience with the following programs: Microsoft Office - Word: Excel; Publisher; Power Point; Outlook.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license or be able to obtain one and be insurable to drive government vehicles.

  • Applicants will be required to authorize a background check and submit to drug testing. Failure to do so will disqualify applicants from consideration for the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
