About ABRAMS :

Founded in 1949, ABRAMS is the first U.S. company to specialize in publishing art and illustrated books. We continue to publish critically acclaimed and bestselling works across a wide range of genres, including art, photography, cooking, design, entertainment, and children's books. We are passionate about creating beautifully designed books with the highest production values, under our various imprints, including Abrams, Abrams ComicArts, and more.

If you’re looking to gain hands-on experience at a leading publisher where creativity, collaboration, and storytelling come to life, ABRAMS may be the perfect place to start your career journey. As the first U.S. publisher dedicated to art and illustrated books—and an industry leader in visual and narrative publishing—ABRAMS is seeking a Children’s Publicity Intern to join our Marketing team as part of our Internship Program.

Over the course of this immersive, unpaid program (offered for academic credit only) , interns will gain meaningful insight into the world of book publishing while contributing to real projects that drive our business forward. You’ll learn alongside experienced professionals, develop practical skills in your area of interest, and participate in opportunities designed to broaden your understanding of the publishing industry. Our goal is to help prepare the next generation of publishing talent while fostering a passion for books, art, and culture.

At ABRAMS, we value creativity, inclusion, and the power of storytelling—and we are excited to welcome students who are eager to learn and contribute to our mission.

We’re looking for an intern to work closely with the close-knit, dynamic children’s publicity department on the promotion of children’s books ranging from picture books to middle grade and young adult (YA) novels. The intern will play an integral role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the department and work on wide-ranging projects across publicity campaigns.

What you’d be doing:

  • Learning and networking with ABRAMS employees, publishing professionals, and fellow interns during a summer internship experience for academic credit
  • Gaining hands-on exposure to the publishing industry, from concept to finished product
  • Supporting research, project work, and day-to-day tasks within your assigned department
  • Contributing ideas and providing creative input on department projects
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and learning about various areas of the publishing business
  • Participating in workshops and discussions designed to deepen your understanding of publishing trends and processes
  • Receiving coaching, mentorship, and feedback from experienced ABRAMS professionals
  • Maintain title information, media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database system
  • Coordinate details and travel logistics for book tours, festivals, conferences, and launch events
  • Draft press releases and media pitches
  • Create publicity mailing lists to further relationships and managed outreach to relevant parties
  • Place orders with the warehouse to send books to reviewers and media contacts
  • You will also attend key meetings and have the chance to observe and participate in the development and execution of Marketing & Publicity campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in each of the growth avenues of Publicity/Public Relations!

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • An undergraduate or graduate education with an anticipated graduation date in 2026 or 2027
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and hungry to learn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Proficiency in Mac OS and MS Office Suite, with strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and AdobeAcrobat; experience with Muck Rack a plus
  • We are seeking a Fall intern who can work 16-20 hours per week in ABRAMS downtown NYC office location
  • Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, resourceful, and highly organized with ability to manage and meet deadlines. A strong interest and experience in publicity and/or publishing is required

Highly preferred candidates also have:

  • Prior internship experience

Internship Details:

  • Duration: Sept 8th – December 19th (Fall 2025)
  • 20 Hours per week
  • Hybrid office hours
  • Compensation: For credit only; must be enrolled in a college program offering internship credit.
