THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking for a motivated self-starter to join our firm as an associate attorney, based in New York City. This role is in-person. Reporting directly to the Founding Partner, the associate will oversee a wide range of work from writing briefs and conducting research to making court appearances and running small cases.

Ideal candidates have impeccable writing and verbal communication skills, superb executive functioning and organization, and exceptional discretion and judgment. They have one to three years of experience working in an elite litigation department or federal defender, preferably handling white-collar, regulatory defense, investigations, or complex civil matters. This person has a strong client service orientation and can manage details and competing priorities with grace and humor.

JOB DUTIES

· Assist in trial

· Conduct legal research

· Draft letters, motions, memos, and briefs; take notes during client and prosecutor meetings, and take depositions

· Review discovery and make discovery demands; analyze fact patterns and outline potential charges

· Serve as client contact (point person) for cases; respond to potential client inquiries and vet clients

· Direct investigations, manage paralegals, and manage case docket

· Make court appearances for bail, motions, and night court

· Run small cases

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum skills and experiences:

· Have New York bar membership and J.D. from a top ten law school

· Ability to conduct legal research, synthesize information, and problem solve

· Impeccable writing and communication skills

· Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; knowledge of federal or state criminal court procedure

· Strong client service orientation with demonstrated ability to communicate and build trust with a range of audiences from diverse backgrounds

· Willing to hustle, and maintain a “no task is too small” attitude; always a team player who prioritizes team and client needs

· Ability to give, receive, and apply feedback; continuous improvement orientation and desire for increased responsibility

· Ability to manage complicated logistics including calendars, processes, and procedures

Ideal candidates:

· One to three years of federal defender or big firm experience, preferably handling white-collar, regulatory defense, investigations, or complex civil matters

· Courtroom experience

· Strong interest in developing a network and bringing on new clients

· Experience as federal judicial clerk

Salary range:

· Base salary: $125,000 - $150,000

· Bonus eligible

· Medical and dental benefits
